Robert Biography

Robert Thomas Pattinson was born 13th May 1986 in the small suburb of Barnes; London, England, to parents Clare and Richard.

The youngest of 3; his sisters Victoria (5 years older) and Lizzy (3 years older) would often dress Robert up as a girl and introduce him to people as Claudia until the age of 12!

Robert attended Tower House, an all boys school known for it's nurturing of pupils creativity. When Robert was just 6 years old he starred in numerous school productions including Spell for a Rhyme and The lord of the Flies.

At the age of 12, Robert moved on to Harrodian, a mixed school, which he admits was a turning point for him with the new distraction of girls and ... hair gel!

Unfortunately, although Robert was much liked by his teachers, his reports often said he didn't try hard enough, his bad-boy streak landing him expelled from school.

The wake up call Robert needed, he decided to join the local acting school; Barnes Theatre Group. He was quickly spotted for his stunning good looks and scouted as a model.

Robert's first acting job as Rawdy Crawley in Mira Nair's Vanity Fair alongside Reese Witherspoon was unfortunately cut from the final film, but can be seen on the DVD but this role did help to put him on the lists of 'one's to watch' amongst casting directors in London, landing him a role in the TV film Ring of the Nibelungs as Giselher.

At age 16 Robert was still unsure about what he wanted to do with his life, so with the earnings from Ring of the Nibelungs Robert paid for himself to continue his final two years of education back at Harrodian School.

In 2005, Mike Newell; Director of Harry Potter; Goblet of Fire had heard of Robert's acting abilities and signed him up to play Cedric Diggory in 4th installment of the Harry Potter series.

Robert admits he hadn't read Harry Potter before getting the part but quickly submerged himself into The Goblet of Fire, reading it several times as they were shooting his scenes. He also admits scanning dozens of Harry Potter fansites and forums to get an insight into how the fans saw his character.

Unfortunately this was to be a short lived role, as fans of Harry Potter know, Cedric is murdered by 'He who must not be named' at the end of the film/book, only appearing on the next film (Order of the Phoenix) as a flashback and an animated poster.

Robert was named 'British Star of Tomorrow' by Times Online after his role in Harry Potter.

After a hectic schedule with Harry Potter, Robert decided to take some time out from acting and returned home to England, spending a year playing music with his best friend before beating some 5000 hopefuls for the role of Edward Cullen in the massively popular Twilight Saga.

Many fans of the series did not agree with the choice of casting Robert, some 75,000 signed a petition to have him replaced! But, with his charm, beautiful good looks and his ability to play any character perfectly, he soon won over many of those petitioners!

Since Twilight, Robert has become an overnight world wide star, his appearance in Cannes recently stirred up a media frenzy, he cannot go anywhere without being photographed or follwed by fans - but his co-stars insist this hasn't changed him and he is still the down to earth Robert we all love.
